Read: 1 Corinthians 10 and Ephesians 4:17-24
Schools are guided by mission statements and community driven visions for student success. These missions are shaped by the needs and values of community members and leaders. As Christians, especially if we are serving in public schools, we may find ourselves in situations wherein our culture does not deem appropriate our guidance of students in the realm of Christian faith. However, even when our lips are figuratively sealed, scripture tells us we can reflect God's grace in our lives in all that we do - even without explaining it outright in words.
To the Corinthians (1 Cor. 10:31), Paul wrote, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." Peter wrote that any husbands that "obey not the word" could be "without the word won" by witnessing the behavior of their wives (1 Peter 3:1-4). Therefore, how we present ourselves to the world and interact with the world is a direct reflection of the changes that have taken place in us as a result of our faith in our savior Jesus Christ. Paul says, "be renewed in the spirit of your mind" and "put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:23-24).
How are you being renewed so that you can present yourself as a reflection of God's grace as you interact with students, colleagues, and school community members throughout the school year? Consider not only what you say but how you say what you say. Consider your attitude towards others and toward your work. Consider what your motivations are. Seek joy in a life lived for Christ, and He will draw others through you.
Prayer: Lord, we thank you for touching our hearts and changing our lives. Please guide us as we work to purify our hearts and minds to reflect to others your life-changing mercy and grace. In a world where Christian values and beliefs are publicly censored, please let us serve as faith-filled vessels, drawing believers to the water of life as they witness your glory in our lives. We serve you and ask for these blessings in Christ's name. Amen.
